May 2014:  Hi Tom!   I was just going to email you.  I did qualify on all weapons without any problems.  In fact one of the Sergeants said in their  meeting the Chief and all the others were talking about how well I can shoot.  Thanks for everything!   I will be back down for more of your classes. Rene  C.

AFT Basic Pistol Class

July 2022: My wife and I recently took the Atlanta firearms Basic Training Course. If you want hands-on Firearms training, this is the place to go. The instructors were simply outstanding in the classroom work and then the actual weapons training at the firing range.  If you think you know about firearms, throw out everything people have told you about guns and take this course. You will be surprised at what you will learn.  Thank you, Tom and your staff for 2 great days of instruction. We are much more comfortable with our weapons now. Richard W.

February 2021: "I want to thank you again for allowing me to participate in your Basic Pistol Course this past weekend.  I had long considered taking a pistol course, but never actually followed through on it.  Now that I have taken your course, I wish that I had not waited so long to do so.  You AND your staff were excellent.  Highly informative, entertaining, down to Earth, and extremely patient.  As you know, before this weekend I had never fired a weapon in my life (54 years old) and only had a gun in my hand but one time.  So for a complete novice like myself, your class is exactly what I needed and was looking for.  I would highly recommend your course to anybody and everybody who has ever given even a passing thought at taking a pistol course.  I look forward to working with you again in the future as I embark on my firearms journey.  Again, many thanks."  Billy G.

July 2020:  "I took the Basic Pistol class and was thoroughly impressed. The focus on safety was drilled into us, which it should be. The instruction on the range and personal attention were great. I had not shot a gun before, but now feel confident to go to a range to practice, and also to be extremely careful and to watch others to make sure they are being careful. I would highly recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn to shoot a pistol or is considering buying a pistol" Mark G.

November 2019: This was my first class with AFT, and it was an absolute blast! I had never used a holster before, but the instructors moved through that part of the class slowly to ensure everyone was comfortable drawing from a holster. The instructors incorporated a number of different drills into the class, which went a long way in making the class much more enjoyable. I would highly recommend this class for any regular shooter who wants to take their pistol skills to the next level, or is simply interested in learning how to properly draw from a holster. Jake M.

April 2019:  I don't know where to begin!  This is a powerful sense of myself that I now feel... a sense of calm and self-assuredness I didn't have before this class. I had a fear of weapons yet I didn't want to live in constant fear of being a victim. This class gave me confidence in myself by providing self defense knowledge and weapons skills.  That's all I could ever have asked for. I can't beat that!  The advertisement is true to its word:  The training is highly comprehensive. The 2 days invested were well worth it, and I believe I gained a greater knowledge because the class was structured in two parts: Day one was classrom instruction learning ABOUT weapons and day two was hands-on skills using those same weapons. The instructors and the Co-Owner were methodical in their instruction. They are professional, personable, friendly, and humerous. I am truly grateful to both Mark Zoghby and Tom Mulherson for the experience I had during this training. My thanks go out to you guys! I recommend the class - you won't regret it!  Franke M.

January 2017:  Thank you very much.  Just wanted to let you know that we have been to a local range 3 times since the class and are really enjoying it.  So far Paige is our most consistent shooter.  You gave us a really good foundation and we have had some good compliments from the Range Safety Officer.  We can't thank you guys enough! Frank W.

November 2016:  Both Barbara and I want to express our pleasure at your  excellent pistol safety course. You and Mark broke down very complex processes into bites that could be remembered. As a faculty member at my university for 35 years, I have been involved in preparing and presenting many full length and “short” courses. Yours was one the best I have had the privilege to observe.  Rick M.

I have attended pistol, AR, and long-range classes with AFT. They have never failed in providing a very educational and fun experience. in addition they stress safety and safe practices at all times. All of the instructors I have encountered have been outstanding and had much experience and a deep knowledge of the fundamentals needed to become a good shooter. They will work effectively with all students, from beginner to the more experienced. Would definitely recommend. Mike C.

The AFT Basic Pistol Course was fantastic! I highly recommend this course to anyone looking to understand basic pistol safety and handling. I had always wanted to experience shooting and had never been in the presence of a pistol, let alone ever handled one. Taking a course seemed like the responsible and safest thing to do. I googled for courses and AFT popped up first with amazing testimonials. I specifically took the "ladies only" course as it felt much more comfortable learning in this environment. Susan and Tom facilitated day 1, and day 2 Michelle joined and all offered individual attention while shooting, along with a very comprehensive course on firearm laws, safety, cleaning, maintenance, and ammunition. What I learned above all, is A LOT goes into shooting then you'd think. If you're thinking about taking a course, then you know you need one - so take this one! All instructors offer continuous support and advice if needed. Couldn't ask for more from a course! Thank you AFT! Regina C.

I recently took the AFT basic pistol course and had a great time. The classroom day was full of knowledge ranging from the mechanics of a pistol, the different types, to disassembling, cleaning and reassembling. The second day at the outdoor range was amazing! We had great instruction in the fundamental techniques, and the importance of proper safety of handling a firearm was stressed at all times. We had the opportunity to shoot a .22, 38 special, 9mm, .40 and a .45 (which is not offered anywhere else that I found).  I did a lot of research on classes in my area before signing up with AFT, and I am so glad I did. The value to knowledge ratio exceeds anything else I found in the area.  Great, knowledgeable staff -I can not wait to take more classes with them! Vanessa M.

Tom:  I wanted to thank you, Susan, and Michelle for one of the most informative classes I have had the opportunity to attend, the ALL LADIES class.  Number one, it was a pleasure to meet other like-minded women who wanted to educate themselves with the handling of firearms.  We had a terrific group.  The class was very informative and very hands on.  I highly recommend this class to any female who wants to become more knowledgeable about firearm safety whether they choose to purchase a firearm or not.  Several of us in the class were simply trying to get rid of the “fear factor” and the three of you did an excellent job.  There was plenty of hands on training and each of us felt we were in very capable hands whether we were in the classroom or the range.  You were patient and allowed us to ask any questions we wanted without being afraid that we would ask a ridiculous question.  That was very important.

So. Ladies, if you are wanting to know more and feel confident with a firearm, Atlanta Firearms Training is the place to be. Sandy W.

July 2016:  I signed up for this class to become more comfortable with pistol I carry. I've grown up around guns and I would say that I am comfortable handling a pistol. However, when I would practice, I'd anticipate the trigger pull which would affect my accuracy. This class was very informative and beneficial to anyone with any amount of gun knowledge. I really appreciated the one-on-one training we received at the range. Tom and Susan were very thorough in exactly how a gun should be handled. The hands-on practice also prepared me for how to a handle a gun that misfires. This was the most important lesson I learned because without the class, I wouldn't have been 100% confident in the moment of what to do. Altogether, this class is comprehensive and beneficial to any and everyone. Sophia N.

June 2016: To the folks at Atlanta Firearms Training, and especially to our instructors: Tom, Susan, and Brandon -- I just wanted to say thank you for the NRA Basic Pistol course we attended in May 2016.  My wife Jean, our twin daughters Rachel and Sarah, and myself all had a great time - and we learned a LOT! It's a great course!  And I've already recommended it to one of my coworkers for him and his girlfriend. Also, I wanted to share that I was chatting this week with a firearm sales individual at a big box retailer.  I had told him that we were signed up for your NRA Basic Pistol before we went.  After we attended the class, I mentioned to him that we had all gone to your course, had a blast, and learned a lot.  He was very surprised.  He said, "Wow - I don't think I've ever heard anybody say that they had a great time at an NRA Basic Pistol course before....." Keep up the GREAT WORK, Atlanta Firearms Training! Mike D.

April 2016:   This is a fantastic course for anybody who is a gun novice (myself) or looking to increase their knowledge (my husband). I am very pleased safety is the priority and driving force of the class. Thanks to this, I feel way more comfortable about fire arms in general. Day 1 we reviewed terminology, the mechanics of pistols/revolvers, etiquette, and harnessing common sense! Day 2 was SUPER fun because we got to execute everything we learned in class and play. The level of detail and duration of this class is spot on - cannot be done on a webinar! Great job and thank you to the wonderful, knowledgeable, friendly, competent, patient team - Tom M., Brandon, and Susan! Allison D.

April 2016:   My wife and I completed the NRA Basic Pistol class and would highly recommend it to others.  Tom, and his team of trainers, are very detailed in their instruction on firearm safety, maintenance, shooting techniques, and firearm selection.  They were experienced instructors who seemed comfortable with shooters from beginners to experts.  The location for the classes in Buckhead is convenient for anyone who lives in the metro area, and the shooting range we were at on Sunday was awesome.  We are already planning on taking other courses from Atlanta Firearms Training in the future. Brandon S.

April 2016:  Outstanding Instructors and Program.  Well worth the time and cost for knowledge, safety and developing good habits.  They provide much more than the minimum requirements.  If I did have to use a firearm, I'm confident of my own safety and those around me.  My hats off to the instructors and owners... a job well done! Bruce K.

March 2016:  This course FAR exceeded my expectations.  The instructor (Mark Zoghby) was not only very knowledgeable and professional, he was an excellent presenter who drew the group into the spirit of the sport along with sharing the essential knowledge.  The range day was awesome. Safety, safety and safety. A very cool combo of needed information, practical practice and just plain fun. The "after the course is over" one-on-one attention was particularly valuable. Instructor Brandon Jeffries zeroed in on and tweaked 3 little things that had an immediate, positive impact on my accuracy. Just paid for my daughter and her husband to take the same course, and am about to sign myself up for Defensive Pistol 1 training. The owners, Tom Mulheron & Brian Wilson have figured out how to do this handgun training thing right. Todd. Y.

AR-15 Level I Class

October 2016:  This course is a fantastic overview of the rifle and it's capabilities. I found the combination of a day in the classroom reviewing slides and actual rifles combined with a full day at the range shooting extremely informative. Overall, I have a very good understanding of what the rifle can and cannot do! Brain and the other instructors are knowledgeable, patient, and skilled teachers. I highly recommend this course to anyone wanting to learn more about the AR15. It is well worth the cost of the course for the weekend and it is FUN! James L.

August 2014: Awesome instructors on both days. I'm relatively new AR shooter, great class to learn more in depth of the machanical/parts function of AR type rifles. It is great to have one class room day and one range day, it gives student time to absorb classroom materials, before "info overload"! Everyone should take the class if you are serious shooter, doesn't matter if you are home defender, prepper, hunter, casual target shooter, or zombie responder! Highly recommended!  Kelly P.

Sept 2013:  I very much enjoyed this class I took last weekend. I had purchased an AR-15 months ago but not had a chance to shoot it at all. Even though I had familiarity with rifles and guns in general, I had some trepidation about the use and care of this particular firearm. Brian Wilson, the instructor, made the class fun and educational. He did a great job of balancing the needs of the students, regardless of their experience level. I came away more assured of my ability to maintain my AR-15, speak intelligently about it, and with some good basic tactical shooting experience. Class size was great, instructors knew their stuff, and the classroom and range settings were optimal for the training. I will definitely be back for more classes. Money well spent!  Joe E.

February 2014:  In two days time my knowledge of the safe and effective use of the AR-15 went from zero to 100. Brian and Steve are fantastic instructors who clearly love to impart their wisdom to those who are willing and eager to learn. The small class size was a real bonus. Essentially, one on one training. (This was a four person class - unusually small. Brian Wilson, Co-Owner). The atmosphere was relaxed, with an emphasis always on safety. I learned a little something about myself too: I really enjoyed the (brief) intro to longer range shooting......and found I had prettty descent skills!  I shall return for additional training with AFT, no question.  BTW, I drove six ours and feel it was time well spent. Thanks again, guys.  David W,

Basic Defensive Pistol Class

September 2016:  I took the Defensive Pistol Level 1, the instructors are the best, they take the time to make sure you not only understand the process but why this process works.  They are all about the transfer of information and they have a lot to transfer.  You will leave the class not only impressed with the instruction, but amazed at how much you did not know on the proper handling of a firearm. I do not believe there is a better class to take if you are currently or planning to carry a concealed weapon.  I will be taking the level II class in the near future, as soon as I can truly absorb what I learned in level 1.  Besides being great instructors they are a great group of guys, just to hangout with. Billy H.

Anyone who plans to be out with a loaded firearm and expects to be safe, needs to take this course.  The Basic Pistol Course allowed me to know how to handle my firearm safely with no threat.  This course added the threat component and it's a must course for added safety if you plan to carry a loaded firearm.  The instructors are the best I've ever worked with and have received literally life saving information and instruction. Bruce. K.

June 2016:   Awesome two days class. I took similar class other places a year ago, I want to retake similar class again, to refresh myself. and learn something different from different instructors. It was awesome class and learn so much from instructors! Boy, was I glad to take the class! Can't wait for Defensive Pistol Class II !!!  K.P

March 2015:  Thoroughly enjoyed the class this weekend!  Tom, Brian and his assistants on the range were all very professional and helpful.  The Basic Defensive Pistol curriculum is well designed and has a lot of real world application as you would expect. It included all those little things that you might have never thought of as someone who conceal carries but those things that you really need to have front of mind.  The range exercises were also well thought out and full of tips in the event you ever find yourself in a defense mode. It was definitely money well spent and I would highly recommend the class. Karen W.

October 2014  PROFESSIONAL GRADE.  I am a certified public accountant and compliance auditor with a national client base.  I mention this only because my livelihood depends on technical details, reducing risk, and a high degree of professionalism.  I see a lot of organizations do a lot of things that are inconsistent, risky, or just plain dangerous.  I have attended other firearms instruction and courses before; however, the AFT training class was by far the most instructive, comprehensive, and professional I have ever experienced!  The instructors were very proficient at taking an abstract concept such as ‘self defense’ and breaking it down into very tangible concepts and processes that slowly build your confidence in being prepared in an unknown situation.  The AFT instructors do this in a very well controlled and safe manner, which requires a true professional mindset. The Basic Defensive Pistol course, was a two-day course with fundamental classroom training and instruction the first day, and several real-world scenario drills the second day.  This training was truly life-changing, as I feel far more prepared in the avoidance, preparation, and survival in a use of force situation.   The class included individuals from various professions, ages, races, and genders.  Members included individuals with physical disabilities (like myself) and individuals with basic firearm experience and members with lots of range experience.  The fact that I could train on both my revolver and semi-automatic pistol was an added plus, and proof that the concepts were truly foundational and applicable in most situations. Be prepared to learn A LOT in this course, as these guys are true professionals when it comes to firearms training! Ryan B.

June 2014: Outstanding class. My girlfriend and I attended in July 2014. I highly recommend bringing a buddy, girlfriend or wife. You won't be able to stop talking about your experiences. Great class, personal instruction and a great value for the price. Cory R.

June 2014: The basic defensive pistol class is my second time with Atlanta Firearms Training and the instruction is superb and complete and only bested by the professionalism, experience and friendliness of every one of the instructors. Safety comes first followed by imparting the knowledge you need to handle and fire a pistol. I believe AtlantaFirearmsTraining is a solid contibutor to our right to keep and bear arms. I will be a repeat student. Thanks! Greg T.

June 2014:  Incredible!  I can't believe I waited this long to take this course.  We learned a ton of new concepts and practiced things that you would never be able to do on your own at an indoor range.  The scenarios at the end of the course really got my blood pumping and reinforced how important it is to train and build muscle memory rather than just relying on your intuition.  I'll definitely be coming back for more. Ian T.

April 2014: Tom, your course was a wonderful and very productive experience with outstanding instructors.  I couldn't ask for more!  When I took your Shooter's Improvement Class I didn't know what I was doing and couldn't shoot.  But it inspired me to be a better shooter and a thinking shooter. And after a year and half of practice I felt good about what I was able to do in your class, but oh so far to go....  I will continue to work on my marksmanship skills, incorporating what new things you taught us, get a new pistol, and plan on enrolling in your Advanced Defensive Pistol class in the future.  Maybe even make a fool of myself in an IDPA match!

Again I can't say enough how much I enjoyed your course!  Thanks for making the course available and filling a critical need.

Richard H.

2013 NRA Basic Pistol Class and Defensive Pistol Class

Tom and Brian are great instructors! I learned alot in the two classes I've taken and plan to take more. From both the classroom and range experience, I've learned so much more and have far more confidence handling a firearm and much greater accuracy in shooting. They also make women feel comfortable in taking the class. At the range, they also brought in additional instructors (Tom, Brandon and Mark), who gave us individual attention and assistance in improving our technique and accuracy. The scenario situations and shooting while moving, learning how to move while drawing your firearm, were a valuable learning experience. I plan to take more classes through Atlanta Firearms Training. They are excellent!  Lynn A.

June 2013 Defensive Pistol Class:

Defensive Pistol Course: Wow, what a weekend. This is a very comprehensive course with an excellent instructor to student ratio providing individual, hands-on instruction and correction. The class not only provides a great foundation in the mechanics of shooting but adds critical information about your mental and physical state during a stressful situation and the decision making process involved in self defense. Brian, Tom M., Tom L., Mark, and Brandon are excellent instructors that provide clear instructions and work with each shooter to ensure they understand what is involved in the range exercises. All instructors showed vast knowledge of the subject matter and patience with each participant. If you choose to take this class, get a good night's rest and come prepared to assimilate a lot of information. You will get a multitude of details in the class that you can then work on afterwards to increase your shooting ability and confidence. I've already sent the class information to a number of friends that I feel would benefit from this course!   R. M. from Atlanta.

April 2011 Defensive Pistol Class:

Brian:  It was an excellent course and I sure did learn a lot. While going through my annual physical yesterday, I convinced my doctor to take your course. If you and Tom EVER need an upcheck on what you do - feel free to use me as a reference. Thanks you both for a great learning experience. Bill M.

Brian. I thoroughly enjoyed the Defensive Pistol Class. You guys do an awesome job teaching and emphasizing the fundamentals. I have been braggin on you guys and the class all week to my friends. I had no idea of the importance of the fundamentals but now see why they are essential to handling a weapon, especially in a defensive scenario. I look forward to taking more classes with you guys.  Michael C.

November 2010 Defensive Pistol Class: I took the basic defensive pistol class last weekend. Both Brian and Thomas were great. I'm the guy who, in a class, will ask a lot of questions, and never once did I feel embarrassed or out of place. They were patient and gracious the whole time and made it a fun and rewarding experience. I got the feeling these guys do it because they are passionate about it. They really went out of their way to make it a good experience, and the level of knowledge I obtained was tremendous. I'd recommend them without hesitation.  JK

I recently took the Basic Defensive Pistol course with Thomas and Brian. I thought I was a decent shot and would be able to defend myself in most scenarios as I have "practiced" numerous times at an indoor range over the past year. Well I really didn't know what I didn't know. The course is phenomenal. The classroom portion teaches you what you need to know to mentally prepare should you ever have to defend yourself. The various drills and scenarios that you learn on the range can only enhance your present skill level as the guys were able to quickly analyze my errors and to tell me exactly what I needed to do to improve my shot groupings. If you have never had any formal training, you NEED this class. If all you've ever fired at are paper targets while you stood carefully in place, you NEED this class. It was fun, informative, and tailored to the students. I highly recommend going with these guys, it's well worth the money.    Wayne C

Tom and Brian are excellent teachers. They gave every class participant adequate attention regardless of the skill level they are in. They do not just teach you how, but they will also explain in sufficient details, the reason behind why you have to do things a certain way. This, I believe enhances the students' learning.

ATF's Basic Defensive Pistol class is the best value for your money! I can't wait to attend their next course!

I just finished the Basic Pistol Defensive class and learned an array of practical skills which I can apply to protect myself and my 2 small children. Tom and Brian were exceptional instructors who emphasized safety and useful tactics which will help me prevail in a violent encounter. My confidence level is much higher than it was before the class, and I very much look froward to learning more form these guys. Also its apparent that Brian and Tom do this because they love it and are passionate about it - its so nice to learn from people who want to be there and genuinely care about you & helping to improve your mindset and skills! Thanks guys!  Dan K.

Advanced Pistol Class

Note:  We have not held this class for nearly two years. The following was submitted in 2015

May 2015:  I was given this class as a Christmas present from my brother since I already had completed a couple of basic firearms classes.  I was looking to gain the skills necessary for me to feel comfortable to start to carry.  I could not have been more please and satisfied with this course! Tom, Mike, Mark, and Brandon know their stuff but more importantly, they know how to teach effectively.  This course was perfect me someone like me who really wanted to gain skills in advanced fundamentals and mechanics of pistol shooting.  With varied scenarios and exercises (ALWAYS with safety first!), I really felt that I gained the fundamental mechanics and the effective implementation of those mechanics in our various drills. Can't express enough my thanks to Tom, Mike, Mark, and Brandon for making this experience such an amazing one -- and fun as well!  Great course!!! Toti P.

March 2011:  Brian. I wanted to thank you for the excellent training and experience my son Josh and I had in your Shooter Improvement Course. The class  material, the instruction, and manner in which the course was taught was far above expectations. You took us out of our comfort zone and challenged our abilities. There were areas of my shooting that improved to a level I thought would have taken another year of practice. I've definitely improved my skills as a result of the training and you gave us a great foundation and systematic approach for continued growth.

My oldest son unfortunately couldn't take the class with us due to a prior commitment. I would absolutely take another class and hopefully all three of us will be able to attend the next time. The best part of the training was your passion for shooting and genuine disposition, which made it an excellent and memorable experience.  Best regards.  Dwayne M.

March 2011: I took the Pistol Shooter Improvement Class in March 2011. The instructors, Brian and Sam, were knowledgeable and patient. Both are experienced but don't throw their expertise around in a condescending way. They constantly reinforced the fundamentals of shooting and most importantly, safety. Our group of five students had varying degrees of experience and the instruction was not so elementary that the more advanced shooters got bored, and not so advanced that the less experienced were intimidated. I've been shooting for two years, exclusively at an indoor range. The outdoor environment allowed a lot of activities that indoor shooting does not ---- multiple targets, rapid fire, moving while shooting, shooting from cover. The price for an all day session with an instructor ratio of one instructor to 2.5 students was excellent.  We all enjoyed the class and it was a great value. You and Sam did a great job. Highly recommend this class.

 General

March 2015:  This was my second class with AFT and I plan on many more. The training cadre is excellent. Mr. Wilson and Sgt. Avery were exceptional instructors, and provided the entire class with a firm foundation in the basic of the weapon system and quickly built us up to a level of proficiency and confidence with the weapon through a variety of well-planned drills. At the end of the day I certainly had a good grasp on the basics and, most importantly, areas in which I need to train in my own use of the AR-15. The course was comprehensive, informed, and professional from start to finish. I cannot recommend these fellows highly enough. I look forward to seeing them again. I live in AL, but it is well worth the drive to train with AFT. Keep up the great work, James L.

I took three of the classes: Basic Pistol, Defensive Pistol, and Basic Shotgun. Brian and Tom did a great job working with all of the students. They are both great teachers, and they patiently work with each student to help each one build confidence. Brian and Tom make the classes interesting and fun while they make sure we all understand how important safety is. They love what they do, and it shows.

I am very glad I found Atlanta Firearms Training! As a new widow, I felt vulnerable and I didn't know much about firearms. Now things are different. Not only do I feel comfortable handling firearms, I now have a new hobby. I highly recommend these classes to anyone new to firearms or to anyone who needs to improve their skills. Thank you so much Brian and Tom for offering these classes. Delores H.
