Who Should Take This Course.

Those who have had little to no experience in firearms are ideal candidates for this course as are those who want a basic education on firearms handling and shooting sufficient to provide confidence in safe firearm handling skills and a basic level of knowledge of firearm function and use.

Rules of Safe Firearms Handling:

The rules of safe firearm handling are simple but effective. We cover safe firearms handling concepts in the classroom portion of the course and you will have an opportunity to practice those techniques during the range portion of the class.

Pistol Construction and Design:

Understanding how your firearm works is critical for safe firearm handling. This course covers the basic concepts of how pistols and revolvers work, providing you will a basic foundation of knowledge to safely handle, fire, and maintain your pistol.

Ammunition Types:

The NRA course covers ammunition design and function, nomenclature, selection, and safe ammunition handling at a basic level.

Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting:

Here AFT instructors take you through the fundamental skills for safe and accurate pistol shooting. The fundamental skills of aiming, breath control, hold control, trigger control, and follow through will be overviewed and practiced by the students with one-on-one attention from the instructors.

 Firearm Cleaning and Storage:

Concepts of firearm cleaning will be discussed. Cleaning products, and techniques will be overviewed but because of the limited time no demonstration of firearms cleaning will be conducted as we do in our comprehensive two day course.

Firearm Selection Considerations:

If you don't currently own a pistol, no doubt you are concerned regarding what type of pistol is appropriate for your purposes. Considerations of type, size, caliber, and magazine capacity all should figure into your selection process. In this segment AFT instructors will overview the available firearms, and hopefully give you an accurate perspective on which type and size of firearm will be appropriate for your purposes.
