Advanced M4 / AR-15

Who Should Take This Course?

Anyone using the M4 Platform for personal/home defense will find this course invaluable. Law Enforcement and Military operators using the M4 in Patrol Rifle or CQB applications will significantly increase their performance and proficiency with this weapon system. NOTE: This is NOT an NRA approved class.

Overview and Course Goals:

The objective of the course is to train and assist the operator in winning a gunfight with the M4 Platform using basic combat-proven tactics, techniques and procedures. The course consists of a 2-hour classroom block of instruction and 5 hours of range-time. This course will begin with basic marksmanship skills, progress through building proficiency with handling the carbine in dynamic situations, and end with acheiving proficiency in basic tactical situations.

Course Prerequisites:

Students registering for our M4 Advanced Carbine Course must have attended the Atlanta Firearms Training’s Introduction to the AR15 Course with a valid Concealed Carry Permit recognized by the State of Georgia or Military or Law Enforcement credentials.

Rules of Safe Firearms Handling:

Nearly all accidental injuries and deaths from negligent firearm discharges violate one or more of the rules of safe gun handling. Safe gun handling involves knowing the safe gun rules, developing a safety attitude, and integrating habitual safety awareness every time you pick up a firearm. Safety is paramount and this is why it is the first segment taught. It doesn't end here -

AFT instructors reinforce safety concepts throughout the course in order to help you "habitualize" firearm safety practices. Throughout the course students will be expected to practice safe firearm handling skills. Due to the dynamic nature of this course, special emphasis will be placed on muzzle-awareness and safety manipulation at all times.

Classroom Instruction:

Subjects include review of “the basics” , accessory/gear selection and setup, zeroing sights and offsets, ammunition selection, basic stance, dynamic stances, loading, malfunction drills, and weapon-side/support-side transition.

Range-time:

At the range, a review of the safe firearms handling rules and an emergency action plan will be briefed. All zeros will be confirmed-iorns(Battle Sight Zero at 25 yards), non-magnified optics at 50 yards, and magnified optics as per the manufacturer. Next, a series of drills will be executed to work on basic skills including standing, kneeling squatting prone, urban prone, combat reloads, tactical reloads, controlled pairs, reaction drills, target discrimination, continuous movement, malfunctions, barricade shooting, and weapon/support-side transitions. There will be a “Balance of Speed and Marksmanship” contest using the skills developed over the course at the end of the session.
